Dr. Hans-Joachim (Hajo) Freund has been Scientific Member and Director at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin, Germany since 1996 and Adjunct Professor with the three Berlin Universities. He heads the Department of Chemical Physics, and he has been involved in founding the Cluster of Excellence “Unifying Concepts in Catalysis“ between the Berlin and Potsdam Unversities and two Max-Planck Institutes. He has also been a founding member of the Scientific Council of the European Research Council. Dr. Freund’s expertises include Physical Chemistry of Surfaces, Interfaces and Nanostructures in relation to Heterogenous Catalysis, in particular.
