Video: Scaling Breakthroughs – Recap from Our London Innovation Event
The Millennium Technology Prize and the Embassy of Finland in the UK brought together innovators and experts in London in May to discuss how successfully commercialized ideas can be scaled further. The lively panel explored how breakthroughs and meaningful impact can be created in both the UK and Finland.
The audience had the opportunity to hear hands-on experiences from two of the world’s leading innovators, as well as from two successful Finnish health tech companies on their journeys in developing R&D and business in the UK.
Our esteemed panellists were Shankar Balasubramanian and David Klenerman, winners of the 2020 Millennium Technology Prize and Professors at the University of Cambridge, Becky Warnes, Public Affairs Manager at Orion Pharma UK Ltd and Charles Alessi, Chief Clinical Officer at Nightingale Health.

“The UK is an excellent place for research, with plenty of talent emerging from our university system. But our operations in Finland offer the perfect counterpart, with a stronger data focus to convert research into commercial products, establishing safety profiles and manufacturing procedures.”
Becky Warnes, Orion Pharma

“Cooperation” was a word that came up repeatedly throughout the event, as Maija Liiri, the CEO of Technology Academy Finland, foundation behind the Millennium Technology Prize, also highlighted in her speech:
“Breakthroughs tend to emerge where different worlds meet – research, business, finance, and policy. The Millennium Technology Prize is developing into a platform that brings these worlds together – as we are doing here today.”Maija Liiri, CEO, Technology Academy Finland
