Watch the recap video: 2027 Millennium Technology Prize opening event
The Millennium Technology Prize continues to serve as an important symbol of Finland’s technological expertise. Together with our partner Business Finland, we organized an inspiring event to launch the new prize cycle and to showcase Finland’s impressive innovation ecosystem.
The gathering of tech thought leaders, innovators, decision-makers, and international media made one thing very clear: Finland’s innovation ecosystem works, as reflected in an atmosphere full of positive energy and lively conversations.
The event was opened by Elina Valtonen, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland, with powerful words:
“The Millennium Technology Prize is much more than an award. It is a global emblem of Finland’s excellence in technology and our belief that innovation must serve humanity. When the world sees this Prize, it sees progress and a country that values science, invests in knowledge, and consistently delivers solutions for a better future. In a world where talent, capital, and research partnerships are increasingly mobile, Finland’s consistent investment in science and technology is our stronghold.”
In addition, we had the honour of listening to inspiring discussions and talks by the 2014 Millennium Technology Prize winner Stuart Parkin, Founder and Chair of the Board at PostScriptum & Foundation PS, Peter Sarlin, the founding director of ELLIS
Institute Finland and the national flagship Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence FCAI Samuel Kaski, Head of Government Relations, Finland at Nokia, Karol Mattila, and Chief Marketing Officer at ICEYE, Marko Ahtisaari.

Finnish companies at the core of the event
Finland’s innovation ecosystem was at the core of the evening with excellent demo examples of Finnish expertise: Varjo’s technology in a fighter jet simulator, Vaisala’s AI solution for monitoring unexpected weather phenomena, Arctia Ltd’s icebreaking expertise, ICEYE’s satellite technology, IQM Quantum Computers’s quantum technology, Onego Bio’s animal-free egg protein, TUNTU’s immersive audio and visual experiences, Rovio Entertainment’s game development expertise and Sulapac Ltd’s ecological packaging solutions.

The on-going Millennium Technology Prize cycle will culminate in June 2027 when the next prize winner will be awarded in Helsinki, Finland.
