Video: Celebrating the announcement of the 2024 Prize Winner
The Winner of the 2024 Millennium Technology Prize was announced on 4 September: the one-million-euro Prize goes to Professor Bantval Jayant Baliga for his innovation that has revolutionized global electrification.
“It is very important that the award and the winner got good publicity because science innovations are so important for our societies”, says Saara Hassinen, Chair of the Communications Committee for the Millennium Technology Prize, and CEO of Healthtech Finland.
The 2024 winner has invented, developed, and commercialized the Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT), a little chip that has enabled dramatic reduction in worldwide electrical energy and petrol consumption. The TAF Board made their decision based on the proposal of the International Selection Committee, composed of eminent professionals from academia and industry with broad knowledge and collective expertise covering the fields of the Prize.
